MILESTONE

  • At the end of 2008, we carried out our first home visit for the approval of the Student Sponsorship Program in the small town of Fengwan, Qujiang District, Shaoguan, at the northern tip of Guangdong Province.  Since then, we embarked on the road of sponsoring poor students.

  • In December 2016, the first parent-child scheme was held, leading Hong Kong volunteer families to organise extra-curricular activities for students of a primary school in the rural areas in Qujiang, Shaoguan.  These families also visited our sponsoring students to experience village life.  The scheme has become almost an annual project since then.

  • In July 2017, Hong Kong sponsors were arranged to meet their students, all of whom were then college entrance examination candidates, and their parents, to discuss parents’ willingness to support their children’s college/university studies.

Student Sponsorship Program

  • In November 2008, we conducted our first training program for over 200 students of a senior vocational training college in Shaoguan.  The theme was communications and teamwork.  Since then, training has become one of our major works in the local area.

  • In April 2010, the first basic volunteer management series was held for our major local partner, the Qujiang Volunteer Association.

  • In January 2011, we began a one-year “Growing Sky'' series for the only local vocational school in the district.  The content includes knowing oneself, peer relationships, resilience, communication skills, leadership skills etc.  It was deeply supported by its school authority and has been held on an annual basis.  We celebrated the 10th series this year.

  • Since 2017, we have organised a summer internship program every year, to arrange our sponsored college/university students to work with our local partners for 1 to 2 months.  The students will then have a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of their local social services.  Hopefully, they can take over some of our work in future.

Training & Development

  • In January 2011, at the invitation of our Hong Kong partner, Yuk Ching Charity Funds, we participated in social services in Hong Kong for the very first time.  We visited the elderlies living alone and CSSA households in Lam Tin District, giving them gifts and comforts.  This event is now an annual event.

  • In April 2013, we co-organised the first learning aid experience tour with Wong Tai Shan Middle School, arranged its students to plan and implement activities for primary school students in Shaoguan.  We let the participating students experience life in the countryside of Shaoguan, and home visit some of our sponsoring students.  Since then, the project has been held on an annual basis.

  • In December 2015, we co-organised “Positive Happy People Exchange Day Camp '' with Hong Kong Peer Counsellors Association. The Program, which benefited about 100 junior high school students in Shaoguan, strengthened their positive attitude thereafter.
